Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PRESEA Shipping Services (Pvt) Ltd

Nelson Almeida is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PRESEA Shipping Services (Pvt) Ltd. He is also a Ship Surveyor for International Naval Surveys Bureau(INSB) and Surveyor for Hull, Machinery & Containers appointed by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. He is First-Class qualified marine engineer, a registered QMS auditor IRCA-UK, ISO certified-NDT Inspector and registered ISO 9000 consultant,Sri Lanka Standard Institute.

He was the former Director of Merchant Shipping (Engineering), Government Engineer & Chief Ship Surveyor and Registrar of Ships to Ministry of Shipping in Sri Lanka.

He completed 4- year course in Special Marine Engineering Apprenticeship at Bonars (Ceylon) Ltd. In 1970 and joined the West German Hansa Line as a Junior Engineer Officer and thereafter serve as engineer officer for five years in British Shipping Companies. He advanced in career from Senior Engineer Officer to become a Chief Engineer, Superintendent Engineer & Government Engineer in 1988 gaining wide knowledge and experience in the field of marine engineering. During his career, among other things he was responsible for arranging vessels for dry-docking, carrying out annual & periodical surveys, inspection of vessels & industrial Boiler Surveys and issuance of Boiler Attendant Certificate.

He has attended training courses locally and overseas and holds membership in professional bodies including the Institute of Marine Engineers London & India, American Society for Quality, Institute of Refrigeration, (UK), Sri Lanka Association for Quality and Full Member of The International Institute of Marine Surveys,UK.

Moreover, he has been appointed as the Regional Technical Manager and Director – Technical for South Asia of Micronesia International Ship Registry (MISR). In Addition to that he is the Consultant for Samoa Ship Registry for Sri Lanka.
